Using ChatGPT to answer Hinge prompts
Three cards, three different questions, and a general-purpose assistant with nothing true to put in any of them. What comes back answers no question in particular and reads as though one person wrote all three, because one thing did. Here is where that breaks, and what it takes to fix it.
Three cards, and each one has a job
Hinge is not one box. Three answers sit on your profile as separate cards, each under a specific question, and somebody can like one of them on its own and send you a note about it. So each card has to do two things at once. It has to answer the question it is sitting under, and it has to be worth liking by itself, with the other two doing nothing to help it.
That is where a general assistant goes wrong twice over. The answers drift off their questions, so a card under "the way to win me over is" comes back describing what he values in people generally, which is not the same request. And all three arrive in one voice, so the set reads like a single paragraph cut into three pieces rather than three things a person said.
What actually happens
You give it facts. Not a personality, not a vibe: things that are true, in whatever words you have. What you did last Sunday. The thing you can talk about for an hour. What you are working towards.
It writes from those, and only those. Then a second, independent pass reads every line back against what you supplied and throws away anything it cannot trace to something you actually said.
It cannot invent a life for you
This is the whole difference between it and pasting the same request into a general-purpose chatbot. Ask one of those for a dating bio and it will happily give you a hobby you do not have, a job you have never done and a sense of humour that is not yours. It reads well and it falls apart on the first date.
A bio written from your material is checked line by line against that material before you see it, and anything it cannot trace is thrown away. When you ask it to work on an answer you already typed, it can round the answer out, but never with a job, a place, a history or a person. It hands that version back as a draft in your own edit box, with the part to replace pointed at.
An answer that answers, and three that differ
Dan takes "the way to win me over is" to a chatbot and supplies nothing. What comes back: good conversation, a sense of humour, somebody who is not afraid to be themselves. That would sit under half the prompts in the app and it answers none of them. It is a list of things no living person is against, which gives a reader nothing to press and nothing to disagree with.
What he actually has is this. Every Saturday he is outside a bakery on Rossmore Road at eight, and he will stand in that queue for forty minutes. Written from that, the card answers the question with something a person can act on, and it could only be him. Because each answer is written for its own question from its own fact, the three do not collapse into one voice.
What it will not do
- It never invents a life fact: no job, no place, no history, no skill, nobody you know.
- A bio is written only from what you supplied, and checked against it line by line.
- Where it fills a gap in an answer, it hands you a draft and points at the part to make yours.
- It does not write messages to other people, and it will not pretend to be you in a conversation.
- The writer is free and it does not ask for a card.
The same promise, applied to photographs
Your words from your facts is the same sentence as your face, not someone else’s. If the writing is going to survive meeting you, the photographs have to as well. Start by finding out what the ones you already have are saying.
Questions
Can ChatGPT write Hinge prompt answers?
It will produce three and they will be readable. The problem is that it has nothing true to draw on, so it writes the average answer to each question, and the average answer is one nobody can do anything with. Every guide to doing this ends up telling you to feed it real specifics first. That step is the whole job.
Why do all three answers come out sounding the same?
Because they came from one request with nothing behind it, so the only material available is the model’s own default voice, applied three times. Three answers written from three different true things about you differ from each other on their own, without anybody having to ask for variety.
Is this what Hinge’s own Prompt Feedback does?
No, and the two fit together. Hinge launched Prompt Feedback in January 2025. It tells you when an answer is too vague, and it deliberately stops short of suggesting the language, which their announcement is explicit about. That is a check on an answer you have already written. This writes one, from your facts.
Is a Tinder bio the same problem?
The cause is the same and the shape is not. A Tinder bio is a single free-text block of 500 characters, skimmed in about a second, so the failure there is a bio that could belong to any of four hundred people rather than an answer that misses the question above it. That one has its own page, linked below.
